Leon Vernon Hightower of Farmington passed away July 3, 2015 at Community Manor at the age of 83. He was born September 4, 1931 in Knob Lick to the late Henry J. and Edna (Chamberlain) Hightower. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Lloyd; one great nephew, Billy St. Clair; and a great-great nephew, Allen Hawthorne. Leon spent most all of his life on the farm and attended grade school in a one room school at Brightstone and German. He enjoyed his guns, his tractor and truck, hunting and raising animals. Often he told stories of shooting big game (mountain lions) and at thieves who sought to rob his gas tanks or chicken coop. For a time Leon lived in St. Louis while he was a boy and had a paper route there. He made many good friends throughout his life and especially in his latter years when living in the Manor. Survivors include one niece, Edna Mae (Burley) St. Clair; two great nieces, Kathy Mason and Cindy Hawthorne; one great nephew, Bobby St. Clair; fifteen great-great nieces and nephews; six step great nieces and nephews; three great-great-great nieces and nephews and several cousins. Friends may call on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. with Reverend Carl Hutchinson officiating.
