STE. GENEVIEVE COUNTY- Leon Francis Schwent of rural Ste. Genevieve County, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the Parkland Health Center in Farmington at the age of 77 years. He was born May 7, 1936 at Lawrenceton, son of the late Harry L. and Elizabeth R. (Kirchner) Schwent. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Virgil V. Schwent. Leon proudly served his country at home and overseas in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. Before retirement he was employed as a machinist with Boeing Aircraft in St. Louis. He was a faithful member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church of Lawrenceton, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1848 Bloomsdale, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Ste. Genevieve B.P.O.E. Lodge 2674, Leadbelt Cruisers Car Club, and the Western Catholic Union. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucille M. (Bahr) Schwent of Ste. Genevieve, daughter Susan (Mrs. Bruce Sander) of Long Beach, MS, two grandchildren Gregory Sander and wife Wendy of Sumpter, SC and Dustin Sander of Long Beach, MS, a great-granddaughter, Ripley Sander; two sisters, Rita Zerwig of Ste. Genevieve, and Mary Alice (Mrs. Glennon Stackle) of Hillsboro and numerous other relatives, friends and neighbors. Friends may call after 4 p.m. until 8 p.m on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church at Lawrenceton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father William C. Thess officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will be in the Parish Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Masses or St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
