Lelan Cowan

Lelan Louis Cowan of Farmington passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 84 years. He was born on February 13, 1925, at Ramona Park, MO, son of the late Bessie Emline (Camden) and Eric Loften Cowan. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Wesley Cowan and Jerry Frederick, a brother, Stanley Cowan, and two sisters, Beulah Cowan and Bonnie Lancaster. Mr. Cowan was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U. S. Army Infantry. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps. Lelan was a lifetime member of the Bismarck VFW Post 6947. He also was a 50 year Mason, a member of the Masonic AF & AM 551 Pendleton Lodge, Past Worshipful Master at the Bismarck Masonic Lodge, and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him, and that includes his wife of 63 years, June (Wilson) Cowan, a son, Larry Lee Cowan (Barbara) of St. Louis, a daughter, Kathy Wiles (George) of Farmington, four grandchildren, Richard Cowan, Michael Cowan, Chelsea Wiles and Jacquelyn Wiles, two great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Yvonne Sutton of Farmington and Violet Light of Lake St. Louis. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2009. A VFW Service will be held Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m. on Saturday with a funeral service at 11 a.m. with Dr. Rick Broadway officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at Bismarck Masonic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Southbrook Skilled Nursing Center and the Parkinsons Association.
