Laura 'June' Finley

January 12, 1940 — May 30, 2020

IRON MOUNTAIN LAKE - Laura "June" Finley of Iron Mountain Lake passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at her home at the age of 80. She was born in Stanford, Arkansas, in January 1940 to the late William Mack Davis and Estle Belle (Greear) Fredrickson. In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Paul Finley, on December 2013; her brothers and sisters, Mary Ellen Neitzke, Frankie Lou Hill, Isaac Melvin Davis, and James Mack Davis. June grew up in Stanford, Arkansas, where she graduated from high school. As a young girl June played the piano, never learning how to read notes but able to play anything by ear. While in school she enjoyed playing on the basketball team. June lived many places, including New York City , Iowa, Michigan, and Massachusetts, and settled in St. Louis, Missouri, where she met the love of her life, Paul, while working as a barmaid at Montreys Tavern, just a couple blocks from Finale Engineering where Paul worked. After dating for 5 years, June and Paul married in September 1972, ending Junes 17-year career as a barmaid. Paul helped June start a printing business in St. Louis, which she enjoyed managing until her children completed school. For the next ten years, June sold suncatchers throughout Missouri and surrounding states at craft shows and owned and managed a trailer park until the 20-year flood of 1993. This major event lead to June being Pauls travel companion until he retired as a traveling salesman. Her marriage to Paul was best described as the couple who were "flippy doodle head over heels in love" and the ultimate dance team. They were so good that they often cleared the dance floor. After Pauls retirement, June and Paul bought a houseboat and enjoyed 15 years of living and fishing on Mark Twain Lake until they moved to Iron Mountain Lake in a home with a lake view, fishing and peaceful living. Born and raised working in cotton fields and farming, June was a hard worker and an intelligent woman who had a zest for reading up on current events and had a passion for politics, and spending much of her time watching her favorite political shows. She also spent a lot of her time working crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She loved fishing, camping, and collecting cookbooks. Survivors include sisters, Linda Sue Reed, Virginia Watkins, brother, Dave Eugene Davis, three children, Camie Lee Oppermann and husband, Steve, of St. Louis; Lillian Heineman of Florissant; and Bernard Carlson and wife, Ann, of St. Peters; grandchildren, William Casey (Melissa) Siemon, Cory (Christine Chang) Siemon, Tyler (Taylor) Carlson, Heather (Steve) Morgan, and Jamie Bommarito; great grandchildren, Gabriel, William, Alexis, Devon, Cameron, Brandon, Sophia, Connor, and Finley; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. The family will have a private memorial gathering at a later time.
