Laura Jane Labundy

Laura Jane LaBundy of Farmington passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011, in St. Louis, at the age of 63 years. She was born on November 23, 1947, at Pekin, IL, daughter of Marjorie (Hailstone) Lindsey and the late Euell W. Lindsey. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Maggie Lynn LaBundy. Laura grew up in Green Valley, IL, and was a 1965 graduate of Pekin High School and a 1969 graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. On May 9, 1970, she married the love of her life, James F. LaBundy at DeKalb, IL. She was employed as a nurse at the Swedish American Hospital at Rockford, IL, where she worked in the neonatology department. After raising her family she enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom. Writing childrens' books was one of Laura's favorite pastimes. She also volunteered many hours at her son's elementary school library at St. Joseph, MO. In August of 1998 the family moved to Farmington where Laura became active in the Park Hills United Methodist Church. She continued writing books and also tended to her beloved pets, strays, and wildlife creatures. In addition to her mother and her husband, Laura is survived by her two children, Jennifer LaBundy, M.D., a Gastroenterologist at St. Louis University and Assistant Professor at the SLU Medical School, and Jeffrey LaBundy, an electrical engineer and his wife Brandey of Austin, TX; a sister, Suzanne (Mrs. Larry) Larkin of Lake Geneva, WI; a brother, David Lindsey and wife Ginny of Joplin, MO; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4 at the Park Hills United Methodist Church at 401 Taylor Ave. A funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Eddie Bone officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph on May 5. Memorials may be made to the Park Hills United Methodist Church or to the Farmington Pet Adoption Center.
