Larry Heaps passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at the age of 72. He was born on December 10, 1939, in Ste. Genevieve son of the late Cleatus Heaps and Margaret Cleo (Hardy) Heaps. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Heaps in 1977, a sister, Sandy Benscoter and a nephew, Gary Heaps. Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Suzy Womack. Larry grew up in Ste. Genevieve County where he attended school through high school. He began working in the St. Louis area early in his life as a commercial carpenter. He continued with that profession throughout his life. He was proud to have served in the Army Reserves for a number of years. An accomplished musician, Larry will be remembered for performing locally on many occasions. He also played many benefits in the area over the years. The guitar was his favorite instrument, however, he played many other instruments. More than anything in this world, Larry enjoyed spending time with the loves of his life, his two granddaughters. Survivors include his children, Laurie Heaps and Christopher L. (Danielle) Heaps; two grandchildren, Addison May and Leigha Dawn Heaps all of Farmington; a step-daughter, Melissa (Frank) Jordan; three step-grandchildren, Leona, Eric and Helena Dawn; his loving companion, Janet Marie Hunt; three brothers, Darrell, Sherrill and Duane Heaps all of the Farmington area; his brother-in-law, Charlie Womack and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends and band members. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, June 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday, June 14 beginning at 7 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with interment to follow at Parkview Cemetery.
