FARMINGTON Kennett Beard, Jr., of Farmington, passed away at Mercy Jefferson Hospital in Festus at the age of 76. He was born November 8, 1940 in Flat River, Missouri to the late Kennett Beard, Sr. and Dorothy Mae (Leonard) Beard. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Linda Gibson and her husband, Edwin Gibson, who was a close friend as well as a brother-in-law.
Kenny, as most knew him, was a 1958 graduate of Flat River High School. He went on to work as a mail carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in Flat River for more than 30 years. Many will remember Kenny for his love of racing. He drove a stock car and was known as the "Flying Mail Man" when he raced at the Empire Speedway. In later years he was instrumental in changing the name of the raceway to St. Francois County Speedway. His son and grandson proudly followed in his racing footsteps. A devoted family man, Kenny was happiest when he was spending time with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren.
He will be missed by all those who loved him, including his loving wife of 55 years, Linda C. (Wofford) Beard; children, Angie (Dal Jr.) Pettus of Pace, FL, Dennis Beard and Bill (Erin) Beard, all of Farmington; seven grandchildren, Dal Pettus, III, Joshua Pettus and Heather Pettus, all of the state of Florida, and Billy Joe Beard, Savanah Beard, Jaggar Beard and Gunner LaBrot, all of Farmington; eight great grandchildren, Dallam IV, Samantha, Abigail, Ethan and Hannah Pettus and Tate and Josie Heifner and Myles Beard; a sister, Glenda (Alvin) (Beard) Halley of Omaha, Nebraska, a brother, Jim (Sue) Beard of Branson, Missouri and Brother-in-law Jim Wofford of Farmington.
