Juanita Lawana Burnette

March 4, 1927 — June 23, 2015

FARMINGTON - Juanita L. Burnette of Farmington passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at her residence at the age of 88. She was born in Farmington to the late Lloyd Mecey, Sr. and Helen (McKinney) Mecey. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Earl William Burnette in 2014. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Yeargain and one brother, Lloyd Otto Mecey, Jr. Juanita was a life long resident of St. Francois County and attended school in Farmington. She met and married her husband, Earl at the age of 16. While raising her family of four children, an accomplished seamstress she created many wedding dresses, clothing items and costumes, as well as doing alterations. In her spare time she also enjoyed embroidery work and quilting. Survivors include her four children, Donna L. Ryan of Overland Park, KS, Elizabeth Ann (Larry) Crites of Courtland, OH, Paula Moyers of Farmington and David Scott (Kim) Burnette of Springfield, MO; eight grandchildren, Rob, Polly, Matthew, Andrea, Jeffrey, Ricky, Cory and Zoe; fourteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Per Juanita's request there will be a Celebration of Life Service at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Monday, Jun 29, 2015 at 10 a.m. with Chaplain Shirley Martka officiating.
