Joy had many names: Mom, Aunt Joy, Ms. Joy, but she was known to all of us as Granny. If you spent any time talking to her, you already know how special she was. She had a heart of gold and would do anything to help others and support her church and community. Granny had so much love to share with those around her, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren recall "When the 5 of us grandchildren were growing up, Granny and Grandpa would keep all of us in their one-bedroom house for the summer. Yes, we may have had to sleep on and under tables, but some of our favorite memories are of those summers. The summers were full of adventures, but most of all life lessons and love. As we started having our own kids, you could always find Granny snuggling her great-grandbabies and doing crafts as they got older." Granny had the most amazing sense of humor and there wasnt anything off limits to laugh about including herself. Her laugh was contagious along with her unique gifts. She was a Scrabble extraordinaire and would never go easy on her opponent, no matter how young they were. However, if you talked to her, you would wonder how she could spell so many words. Her vocabulary was full of verbose phrases like, doo-hickey, when she didnt know what things were called. When she was really stumped, she moved on to words of do-ma-fidgeys and thing-a-majigs. Her famous last words were "I was gonna," meaning she had good intentions but never got it done. Granny loved the natural beauties that life had to offer. She loved planting flowers and putting out hummingbird feeders in the spring. She has the prettiest flowers that continue to grow in her yard every year. She had a vast love for God and would often rejoice in singingon and off key. Granny and Grandpa had an open door to anyone who wanted to come see them. They are now together in heaven and forever in our hearts passing on the blessings of life that they had taught us. They were our beacon of positivity, encouragement and integrity.
