John "Bill" William Archambo of Farmington passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at the age of 80 years. He was born on December 2, 1931, at Ste. Genevieve County son of the late Charlie and Gertie (Carnill) Archambo. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by the mother of his daughters, Peggy Lee and his wife, Zoa Gayle (Whitener) Archambo; a brother, Elmer Lee Archambo; a sister, Dottie Rapert and a step-daughter, Sharon Lashley. Bill grew up in the Chestnut Ridge Community and graduated from Ste. Genevieve High School in 1949. He was an athlete who participated in basketball and was proud of the fact that he could do a fine cartwheel. However, in later years he was not so successful in his attempt at skateboarding. Soon after high school Bill joined the military serving his country in the United States Army. He was a truck driver for many years and earned a certificate for over a million miles accident-free. Bill and Gayle managed the Ministerial Alliance Thrift Store for a number of years and for a time he and Gayle also worked for Cozean Funeral Home. After retirement from trucking Bill took up a second career driving a school bus for area school districts. In more recent years Bill enjoyed being a delivery man for Pegasus Pharmacy to Southbrook. He participated in community theatrical productions in past years including "Annie Get Your Gun". He was a long-time, faithful member of First Baptist Church of Farmington where he taught Sunday School. Many will remember him for his quick wit, his great sense of humor and his memorable laugh. Survivors include his children, Dee Gordon and husband, Rob of Park Hills; Debbie Trueman and husband, Tom; Terry Hawn and wife, Cathy, all of Farmington; Elroy Dale Hawn and significant other, John Garcia of Guadalajara, Mexico; and George Hawn and wife Kathy of Fredericktown; five sisters, Ruth Stam of Farmington, June Gordon of Park Hills, Shelby Holt of Dixon, Pat Peyton of Fredericktown and Donna Sue Helms of Doniphan; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews and many good friends. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Wednesday, October 24 from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning in the funeral home from 7 to 9 a.m. followed by the funeral service at First Baptist Church of Farmington beginning at 10 a.m. with Dr. William Miller officiating. Interment will be at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery in Ste Genevieve County.
