John Whitson Moss

DOE RUN- John Whitson Moss of Doe Run, MO, formerly of Sullivan, MO, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012, at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington, MO, at the age of 65 years. He was born April 27, 1946, in St. Louis, MO, son of the late Whitson William and Fairy June (Matthews) Moss. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, William (Will) Moss. John grew up in the Sullivan area and graduated from Sullivan High School. He then attended the University of Missouri at Columbia where he earned double bachelor's degrees, one in English and a second in Political Science. After college he worked as a school teacher, bookkeeper, and worked on the family farm. He was a life-long member of the Old Argo Presbyterian Church at Japan, MO. John was a faithful and devout Christian and loved his God and family very much. His hobbies included writing poetry, reading, fishing and hunting. John will be missed by all those who knew and loved him including his brother, Donald G. Moss and wife Nancy of Bourbon, MO, two nephews, Jess Moss and wife Chastity of Sullivan and Clint Moss and wife Katie of Sullivan, and a great-nephew, Jase Moss of Sullivan and many relatives, and all of his friends at the Crawford Ranch in Doe Run where he had resided. The family will receive friends at the Old Argo Presbyterian Church in Japan, MO for a memorial service on Wednesday March 21, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rob Cardwell officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Old Argo Presbyterian Church Cemetery fund.
