John Thomas Lucas

FARMINGTON - John Thomas Michael Lucas"Uncle Tom" let go of the pain wracked body that kept him earthbound on March 12, 2013 at the home of his niece at the age of 70 years. Uncle Tom was born on April 12, 1942 in Dallas, TX, the son of the late John Forrest Lucas and Mary Evelyn (Mizrany) Lucas. He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister. Having been diagnosed with meningitis at the age of 11 months, he lived his life crippled, legally blind and with short term memory problems and every reason in the world to be bitter. But to know Uncle Tom was to know pure gentleness of heart and the greatness of God's love. Everyone that ever met Uncle Tom fell in love with him. Uncle Tom was truly ageless. When confronted with someone who needed compassion he was a supportive Uncle, when tucked in at night, a small child. Unbelievably strong of heart and brave as he faced many transitions from a warm loving home with his mother until her passing, to facilities for disabled adults, to group homes to nursing homes. His spirit was magnificent, constantly considerate and unfailingly kind. He leaves behind two nieces, Karen Tate and Katy (Max) Hardy and three nephews, Mark Lucas, Charles Lucas and Michael Lucas. Also surviving are 22 great nieces and nephews and 6 great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his family he is also survived by many, many friends. Friends may call on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory from 5 pm until the time of service at 7 pm. with Pastor Max Hardy officiating.
