John Robert Hastings

FARMINGTON John Robert Hastings passed away February 22, 2024, at NHC in Desloge at the age of 75. He was born in Bonne Terre on June 3, 1948, to the late Harold K. Hastings and Virginia (Schafer) Hastings. John was a 1966 graduate of Farmington High School and went on to attend Mineral Area College. While in college he was drafted into the military. He bravely served in Vietnam in front-line combat for a year as a radio operator. After returning to civilian life, John went to work as a miner at Mississippi Lime Company where he retired after 44 years. He was a devoted single father and a wonderful Pawpaw to his grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. So many will remember him as he was affectionately called "Gorilla". His only hobby was being a caretaker to many, including friends and family. Survivors include his sons, Matthew Stone and Jason Campbell and daughter, Katrina Campbell; eight grandchildren, Christopher Stone, Carter Stone, Chance Stone, Thomas Barton, Maxon Campbell, Adriana Zahn, Jaxx Zahn and Scarlett Campbell; his siblings, Harold (Phyllis) Hastings, Larry (Deborah) Hastings, and James (Robert Buecher) Hastings. There will be a memorial gathering on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Cozean Memorial Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. with a service to follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor David Duncan officiating. A private interment will be held later at Parkview Cemetery. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Farmington VFW post 5896 in care of the funeral home.
