John R. Blakely

FARMINGTON John Robert Blakely was born July 16, 1924 in Springfield, MO and passed away June 5, 2018 at Presbyterian Manor in Farmington, MO at the age of 93. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Alice (Chandler) Blakely, son, Michael (Kathy) Blakely of St. Louis, granddaughters, Cara (Jim) Conway of St. Louis and Megan (Tom) Marrs of Austin, TX, great grandchildren, Jack Conway, Katie and TR Marrs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mervin and Vera Blakely, brothers, Richard Blakely and Merle Blakely and a sister, Carol Brown.

He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps in Italy in WWII with the 346th Bomb Squadron. A third generation railroader, he was an apprentice served journeyman machinist. After working for over 40 years for the Frisco Railroad, he retired in 1981. During retirement, he and Alice enjoyed a cabin on Table Rock Lake and traveling the country in their travel trailer.

He was a member of VFW Post 5896 and Farmington Presbyterian Church.

No local services will be held. A committal service with full military honors will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
