FARMINGTON - John Giles Hunt III, 71, of Farmington, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013 at his home. He was born March 12, 1942 at Ironton, son of the late William Marshall and Lillian Louise "Pete" (Caler) Hunt. John was a graduate of Farmington High School and Mineral Area College. He proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a well trained and avid light-aircraft aviator and provided contracted aviator service to Ameren UE for many years. For 38 years he and his wife Nancy owned and operated the Hunts Dairy Bar in Farmington. He served on the Farmington Municipal Airport Development Board, and owned and operated Lakeside Airport just outside of Farmington. John was a member of the American Motorcycle Association, and a strong supporter of the Farmington Pet Adoption Center He is survived by his wife, Nancy Louise (Stamm) Hunt of Farmington, sons John Giles Hunt IV of Farmington and Gavin Daniel Hunt of Farmington, brothers David Hunt of Farmington, and Bill Sutherland of Farmington, sister Fran Wulfers of St. Louis, grandchildren, Brooklynn Marie Hunt and Gavin Ryder Hunt, step-grandchildren Emily Taylor Straughan and Jacob Allgood, a special cousin Giles "G.K." Hunt of Arcadia and numerous other relatives, friends, and neighbors. John's family and friends will hold a special "Memorial Car Cruise" on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Hunt's Dairy Bar in Farmington. John's Family and friends will share memories, enjoy the classic cars, listen to the oldies, and watch the planes fly over to celebrate his life in a way that John would appreciate.
