John Royal Faries, formerly of Farmington, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Southgate Nursing Center at the age of 92 years, 10 months, and 17 days. He was born April 8, 1917, at Wappapello, son of the late Ishmael Blithe and Maggie Pearl (Knodell) Faries. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Johnston and Wanda Hardy, and by two brothers, Virtle Lewis and Alvin Virgil Faries. John became a believer and was baptized in a small Baptist Church at Egypt, MO in 1935. He was married by the Rev. James Draper to Audrey Mae Graham, daughter of Frederick Angelo and Sarah Francis Reed Graham on December 20, 1943 at Bay City, Texas. He served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II from October 20, 1941 to December 31, 1945 as a First Lieutenant. Mr. Faries spent his working career building quality homes in and around Farmington. In his spare time and during his retirement, John was happiest spending time with Mae in Florida where they fished on Lake Okeechobee. His family was of great delight to him as well and he enjoyed spending many hours with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 66 years, John is survived by three children, Tryna K. Groat and her husband Gene of Arnold; Steven T. Faries and his wife Jane of Jacksonville, FL, and Stanley C. Faries and his wife Patricia of Oswego, IL.; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, followed by funeral services at 9 a.m. with Chaplain Bill Treece officiating. Interment will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
