John Ellis Thomure

John Thomure of Farmington passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at the age of 82. He was born June 18, 1933 in Farmington to the late John William Thomure and Leona Alma (Harmon) Sanders. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Butts) Thomure; five sisters, Bertha Gastreich, Ruth Robertson, Helen Bowling, Hazel McCabe and Alta Wampler; two brothers, Vernon and Jerry Thomure. John grew up in the Farmington area and went into the military at a young age. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. stationed in California. Upon his return to civilian life he was employed in various jobs which necessitated extensive travel. Being an outgoing person, he enjoyed the many people he met along the way. In his spare time he was an outdoorsmen who liked fishing, camping and being on the water. Most will remember him as being a generous and kind person who frequently offered both his skills and knowledge. Survivors include his two sons, Lloyd Ellis (Pam) Thomure of California and Floyd Allen (Estela) Thomure of Arizona; ten grandchildren, Shawn (Stacey), Ryan (Jacinda), Kyle (Sisamouth), Colin, Devin, Shauna, Travis, Zach (Nikki), Cassandra (Elliott) and Erica (David); eleven great-grandchildren, Haley, Rebecca, Reese, Matthew, Alex, Reese, Lane, Nevaeh, Carrigan, Elliott and Ezekiel; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, August 14 from 5 - 8 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the time of the service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Reverend Don Strickland officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill United Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to National Right to Life Committee or American Cancer Society.
