FARMINGTON John E. Payne of Farmington passed away surrounded by his loving family at Barnes Jewish Hospital on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the age of 61. He was born January 12, 1955 in Farmington, Missouri to the late Andrew Lee Payne and Lova Ann (Harris) Payne. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four sisters, Lova Leora Wofford, Lena Frances Oder, Juanita Leigh Gibson and Verna Carol Lewis; brothers-in-law, Arthur Wofford, Dale Bayless and Jimmy Rawson.
John graduated from Desloge High School in 1973 and went on to college at Mineral Area College, Southeast Missouri University at Cape Girardeau and Missouri University School of Engineering in Rolla. He was employed for Fruen Collins Engineering in Cape Girardeau and Olin Brass Manufacturing in Wood River, IL. John was a "new construction inspector" for Metropolitan Sewer District of St. Louis for a number of years before he retired from there. After retirement he pursued his true passion for music in a full time capacity. He created his own studio and worked on his folk opera called "Legends of Love", which consisted of the quaternity outline (symmetries, interactions and consciousness) of twelve albums stretching from the beginning of time into the future. He put his music aside to raise his grandchildren, Madeline Rose and Ian Michael, while at the same time creating a side album called 7 Moments which included the song, "Motherjohn". When John was not composing he was basking into the wonders of the creation through astronomy. He enjoyed sharing his spirituality with a special group of friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Carol (Klein) Payne; his step-children, Tamera (Ken) Harris and Lisa Doe; grandchildren, Sahba, Caitlin, Madeline, Michael and Stevie; two sisters, Minnie Bayless and Debbie Rawson; two brothers, Andrew Lee (Donna) Payne, Jr. and Larry Elliott Payne; a chosen brother and musical collaborator, Bert Kinney; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Russell Silver; brother-in-law, Button Gibson and nieces, nephews and extended family.
