John Detring Thomas

FARMINGTON John Detring Thomas, of Farmington, entered into eternal rest on November 1, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 60. He was born in Farmington on October 18, 1962, to the late Duane and Nadine (Detring) Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Craig Thomas and his niece, Kelli Grantham. John is survived by his loving wife, Sherry (Folkemer) Thomas, his sons, Zach (Lauren) Thomas and Josh Thomas, his stepsons, Clinton (Alexander) Russ and Cody Sexton, his siblings, Stephen (Debbie) Thomas, Deborah (Kirby) Grantham, Diane (Bob) Hirsch, and Marjorie (Mike) Tedder, his mother-in-law, Janet Laut, numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends along with his special canine companions, Dakota and Trixie. John graduated from Farmington High School in 1981. He worked for the family business, Thomas Plastering for over thirty years. John was a faithful Christian and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he volunteered on many levels. He was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, hiking, visiting national parks, and his annual pheasant hunting trip to South Dakota with family and friends. John will be remembered as being selfless and was always doing things for others. He had a quick wit, a dry humor and always had a joke. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel. Visitation will resume on Monday, November 7 from 7:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at Cozean. A funeral service will immediately follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 609 East Columbia Street, Farmington with Pastor Stephen Constien officiating.
