MINERAL POINT Joan "Joni" I. Story, passed away July 31, 2017 at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus at the age of 72. She was born March 2, 1945 in Toronto, Ohio to the late William Robert Daniels and Dorothy Mae Eleanor (Jones) Daniels. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Allen Story in 1974 and an infant son, Christopher Allen Story in 1972.
Joni was a very loving, caring and supportive aunt who often cared for her nieces and nephews as they were growing up. She was passionate about her pets and adored her cats, Jack and Jill. Joni was very creative and spent her retirement years scrapbooking and enjoying a quiet, peaceful life close to her family. She loved reading and watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues games. Joni had a talented musical spirit and had a beautiful singing voice as well as being an accomplished pianist. Engelbert Humperdinck was her favorite entertainer. She and a few close friends would travel to different states attending his concerts and she served as president of his fan club for several years. She began working at the Missouri Division of Family Services soon after she graduated from high school and was employed there until her retirement. Joni's co-workers and dear friends described her as a generous, fun-loving and selfless person. Her warm smile, witty sense of humor, and strength in persevering through her life journey, is what Joni will be mostly remembered for. Survivors include her only sibling, Janet L. Huck and husband, Dr. Joseph B. Huck; five nieces and nephews, Tommy Huck (Jennifer), Dr. Jeff Huck (Maria), Dr. Dan Huck (Dawn), Sarah Knapp (JR), and Emily Brown (Denny); fourteen great nieces and nephews, Delilah, Clementine, Kelsea (Nick), Gabe, Tyce, JT, Sami, Cole, Emmy, Wyatt, Tristan, Ethan, Sabra and Sabyn.
