James Marcus Jimmy Gonz of Farmington passed away on Friday, February 1, 2008, at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center at the age of 42 years. He was born on March 7, 1965, at Fredericktown, the son of John and Marilyn (Wampler) Gonz. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rollan and Alberta Wampler, Albert and Fern Gonz, and Alonzo and Vera Stuart. Jimmy was a member of the Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. He was employed as a mechanic with the St. Francois County Highway and Bridge Dept. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1983. In his free time he refereed football, basketball, and wrestling at area schools. He also coached MAFL Football and MABA Baseball. He loved being outdoors, was an avid deer hunter, and had a great love for Tennessee Walking Horses. His family and friends will greatly miss him. That includes his wife, Abby Lynn (Swaringim) Gonz, his children, Amber and Nathan Gonz of the home, parents, John and Marilyn Gonz, all of Farmington, brother, Albert Gonz (Jackie) of Bridgeport, WV, sister, Kimberly Crowell (Mitchell) of Farmington, in-laws, Jim and Donna Loyd of Terre Du Lac, and Ed and Darlene Swaringim of Ozark, grandparents-in-law, Don and Lucille Goggin of Terre Du Lac, his extended family, Tim and Sharon Swaringim of Park Hills, Dorinda and Ewell Henson of Desolge, Yvonne and David Ruble of Terre Du Lac, Christie and Louis Bell of Piedmont, Carlina Loyd of Jackson. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many cherished friends also survive. The family will receive friends and family at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 3. Visitation will resume at 7:30 a.m. on Monday. A funeral service will be held on Monday at the Cozean Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Goggin officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve County. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to the Jimmy Gonz Memorial Scholarship Fund.
