Jimmie "Jim" Allen Peters

Jimmie Allen Peters of Farmington passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at the age of 78. He was born on March 23, 1935, at Rock Oak, West Virginia, son of the late Ray C. and Nova (Park) Peters. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Philip Peters and a sister-in-law, Rebecca Jane Peters. Jim, as most knew him, grew up in Rock Oak, WV and graduated in 1953 from Moorefield High School. He went on to graduate from Shepherd College with a BS in Chemistry. In college he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. After college Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was employed for 37 years with a mineral granules corporation where, upon his retirement in 1997, he was the Director of Manufacturing. During his adult life, Jim was active in the Elks, Southeast Missouri Mining Association, Boy Scouts, PTA and the Southeast Missouri Seniors' Golf Association. He was a former member of the St. Francois Country Club and a current faithful member of Memorial United Methodist Church where he had held offices on the Administrative Board and was in the Men's Club. He was also a current member of the Chancel Choir. Jim and his wife, Janet, delivered meals on wheels for the past 15 years. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed hunting and playing golf. His family will lovingly remember his great sensitivity and caring manner. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Janet (Hott) Peters; his children, Jennifer Duncan and husband, Dave, of Milan, TN and Mark Peters and wife, Donna, of Fredericktown; three grandchildren, Megan, Erika and Michael; two brothers, Donald Peters and wife, Phyllis, of Romney, WV and Walbert Peters of Petersburg, WV; a sister-in-law, Suzanne Peters of St. Augustine, FL; a host of nieces, nephews and many good friends. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, September 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled at Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 5 at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Scott Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens in Farmington. Memorials may be made to the Meals on Wheels for Special Diets or Memorial United Methodist Church Chancel Choir.
