Jimmie Bartley Sr.

FARMINGTON, MO Jimmie Eugene Bartley, Sr. of Farmington, passed away February 5, 2022 at Country Meadows Nursing Home at the age of 92. He was born in Elvins, Missouri to the late Joseph Bartley and Dorothy Mae (Harrington) Bartley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Opal A. Bartley in 1999. He grew up in Elvins and at a very young age he worked in DeSoto at the rail shops rebuilding rail cars until he was drafted into the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict. He always commented that his time in the military was the worst camping trip he had ever been on. His sense of humor was a dry one and he was funny without trying. When he was younger, he enjoyed riding horses and working on the farm. In later years he still farmed and raised cattle. He retired from General Motors in 1988 after thirty years. In his retirement he grew a Buckeye tree on his property and loved to go to Walmart and sit on the bench and give a buckeye to people passing by. Jimmie was in his element when he was enjoying his familys company and living on his farm. Survivors include his son, Jimmie (Traci) Bartley, Jr.; two grandchildren, Ashley Bartley and Joe (Jenna) Bartley; and six great grandchildren. Jimmie shared his extended family for 24 years with his love and mate, Barbara Helms; her family, son Richard (Roberta) Helms; her daughter, Diane Schwent; her four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are extended family and good friends. There will be a memorial gathering for friends and family from 12 1 p.m. Thursday, February 10 at Cozean Memorial Chapel with a brief memorial service beginning at 1 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel.
