Jewell Eugene "Gene" Ramsey

Jewell Eugene Gene Ramsey of Farmington passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center at the age of 76. He was born on August 1, 1934, at Silver Lake, son of the late Jewell Wilbur and Stella Ora (Whisler) Ramsey. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Michael Baylard; his grandmother, Lena Ramsey and his aunt, Golden Whisler. A lifelong resident of the area, Gene was employed for over 40 years with Sam Scism Ford in Park Hills. After his retirement in 2000 he and his wife, "Ruthie" enjoyed traveling around the country to many destinations. His favorite vacation destination was the Great Smoky Mountain region. He enjoyed quail hunting, fishing and just being in the outdoors. Many will remember Gene riding his lawn mower for many hours at a time. His favorite pastime was spending holidays with his grandsons. Jewell is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Ann (Fisher) Ramsey, his son, Eugene Michael Ramsey and his wife, Judy; three grandsons, Jared Ramsey and his wife, Kimberly, Garrett and Alec Ramsey and great-grandson, Jewell Casey Ramsey all of Farmington. Also surviving is a sister, Linda Baylard of St. Louis and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 14. Visitation will resume Tuesday from 7 a. m. until the time of the service beginning at 2 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Pastor Myron Larimore officiating.
