Jessie "Peggy" Powers

Jessie J. "Peggy" Powers of Farmington passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 90 years. She was born November 24, 1919, at DeSoto, Missouri, the daughter of the late Charles and Josephine (Graff) Ashcraft. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Berl B. Powers on December 11, 1983. Peggy was a former member of the Nan Weber Garden Club, a member of Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington, and an honorary member of the Mineral Area College Little Theatre Guild and Onstage Players. She was a long time business owner in Farmington, having owned the Ben Franklin store and the Style Bar dress shop and later she worked for 14 years as an associate at the Farmington Wal-Mart store. Mrs. Powers thoroughly enjoyed her neighbors and friends from many years of living in Farmington. Their companionship and support meant a lot to her. She is survived by a son, David Charles Powers of Farmington, a daughter, Peggy Sue Cresswell of Florida; cousins, Charles Starmer of St. Louis and Eddie Jo Damm of Little Rock; and Beth Eckardt of Farmington who was a special friend who was always there for Mrs. Powers. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009. Visitation will resume on Saturday at 7 a.m. until the beginning the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
