FARMINGTON – Jerry Stwirt Kay, of Farmington, passed away on September 9, 2024, at the age of 84 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy of life. He was born on August 19, 1940, in Iron Mountain, Missouri, to the late Cletus and Luticha (Nieson) Kay.
In 1958, Jerry met the love of his life, Dorothy Irene Walker. They married in 1960 on New Year's Eve in a double wedding ceremony with Jerry’s Brother, Larry Kay, and Dorothy’s best friend, Norma Bayless. Jerry and Dorothy went on to have two daughters, Brenda and Melinda.
Jerry dedicated his life to his work as a surveyor for the Missouri Department of Transportation, where he made significant contributions throughout his career. After retiring in 2001, he continued to embody his strong work ethic, often found mowing grass, cutting wood, and engaging in various outdoor activities. A passionate golfer, Jerry cherished his time on the course and loved spending time in nature, whether hunting or enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. His commitment to hard work and his love for life will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Kay; his daughters, Brenda Williams and Melinda Byington; his two sons-in-law that he loved as his own sons, Stephen Williams and Kenneth Byington; his five grandchildren, Deaven Williams, Stwirt (Jordyn Million) Williams, Whitney (Dillon) Thweatt, Trew Byington, Lake (Brooklen Mendenhall) Byington; his great-grandchildren, Emersyn Vaness and Brenton Byington; his sister, Thelma Williams; his brother, Teddy (Leora) Kay; and his special friends, Calvin and Jean Marie Clifton.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Cletus and Luticha Kay, and his brothers, James Kay and Larry Kay.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 5 – 9 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel. Visitation will resume on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel officiated by Pastor Shawn Lee and Pastor Gary Hall.
