Jerry Leslie Whitmer

Jerry Leslie Whitmer, of Farmington, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the age of 41. He was born on December 15, 1972, at Farmington, son of Chester Granville Whitmer and Frances (Walker) Whitmer, who survive. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ferman "Red" Walker and Osa Muralene (Lawrence) Walker; his aunt, Bonnie Guinn; his biological father, Carl Dean Bowman; and a half-brother, Jimmy Dean Bowman. Jerry graduated from high school in 1993 from Center High School and went on to cosmetology school in Hannibal. He worked for J. C. Penney and Great Clips for many years before going on to work in management for CiCi's Pizza in Texas. Jerry enjoyed writing, keeping journals and was a very accomplished poet. A devout Christian, Jerry loved to read his Bible. He was a member of Libertyville Christian Church. He had taken photography classes and very much enjoyed taking many pictures of family. Christmas was Jerry's favorite holiday and he enjoyed the season to its fullest. Survivors in addition to his parents include his aunts and uncles, Dorothy and Jerry Kay; Peggy and Beau Benson; Jenny Whitmer and Fritz Whitmer, Sr.; numerous special cousins including Brenda and Steve Williams, Kenny and Linda Byington, Karen and Steve Bible, Freddie Whitmer, Debbie Lou Brunk and Tom and Jackie Day. Other survivors include a step-brother, James Whitmer, two step-sisters, Debbie Sue Johnson and Terry Hewitt; extended family and friends. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Monday, July 14, 2014 from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. with Rev. Paul Odenthal officiating.
