Jerry Jacklin "Jack" Ashby

Jerry Jacklin "Jack" Ashby of Farmington passed away Monday, October 17, 2011, at the age of 78 years. He was born on April 1, 1933, at Elvins, son of the late Nathaniel Layton and Leila Ardel (Young) Ashby. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Michelle Elizabeth Ashby, and a sister, Patsy Martin. Jack grew up in Elvins where he graduated from high school in 1951. "Butter" was the name he was given at an early age and many long time friends will remember him by that name. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. In 1956 Jack married the love of his life, Barbara Maxson, who survives. He worked for St. Joe Lead Company for more than thirty years and retired in 1991 as a computer programmer. In his retirement he was an avid sports fan who loved watching Cardinal baseball games. Attending and watching his grandchildren in all their various activities was a favorite pastime of his. In his spare time he enjoyed photography, computers and any kind of electronic gadgets. Most of all Jack was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his family and many good friends. In addition to his wife Barbara, Jack is survived by a son, Jack Ashby and his wife Theresa of Fenton, a daughter, Beth Standfuss and her husband Dennis of Farmington, four grandchildren, Ann Ashby, Patrick Ashby, Jessica Standfuss and Michael Standfuss, two sisters, Judy Baker and her husband Denny, and Jane Hartley, wife of the late Ed Hartley, a brother-in-law, Gene Martin and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19. Visitation will resume Thursday from 7 a.m. until the time of the service beginning at 1 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Dr. Rick Broadway officiating.
