Gerald Wayne Black of Farmington passed away on Monday, November 26, 2012, at the age of 71. He was born on January 10, 1941, at Bloomsdale, son of the late Burnice Alvin Black and Goldie (Bowers) Black. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Ray. "Jerry" as most called him, grew up in the Farmington area and graduated from Farmington High School in 1959. He worked for many years in the construction industry in South St. Louis, Indiana and the Farmington area. He was a master carpenter who remodeled many homes and also built homes from the ground up. After his retirement Jerry enjoyed his farm where he raised cattle and hogs. In his spare time he enjoyed coon hunting and his hunting dogs. Survivors include his loving companion and fiance, Ruth Busch; a sister, Janet Sue Bays and husband, Charles; a brother, Bill Black and wife, Rita; his son, Joey Pruett; two grandchildren, T. J. Pruett and Jessica Pruett; one great-grandchild, Zetta Farrar; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Wednesday, November 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning at 7 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. with Reverend Jay Lacey officiating. Interment will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens in Farmington. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
