Jerome 'Jerry' Joseph Planitz Jr.

FARMINGTON Jerome "Jerry" Joseph Planitz Jr., of Farmington, originally from Bunker, passed away on May 4 2021 at Mercy Jefferson in Festus at the age of 63. He was born on May 26, 1957, in Granite City, Illinois to the late Jerome Joseph Planitz Sr. and Ruth (McMurty) Planitz Oster. Jerry formerly worked for 19 years at Shell Oil in Wood River, Illinois as a supervisor before becoming the power plant supervisor at the University of Missouri in Rolla where he remained for 19 years before being furloughed due to COVID. He was raised of the Catholic faith and was a dedicated and loving family man. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Jerry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Beth (Richardson) Planitz, his son, Jerome (Lisa) Joseph Planitz III of Cuba, Missouri, his siblings, Kim (Rick) Edwards of Granite City, Illinois, Jesse "Skip" Planitz of Ironton, Missouri, Ramona "Mona" Gant of Granite City, Illinois, Mark (Renee) Planitz of Paducah, Kentucky and James "Boe" (Jamie) Planitz of Granite City, Illinois, many nieces and nephews, his special dog, Maggie along with a host of friends.
