Jean Skaggs Kuntz

May 31, 1931 — October 28, 2022

FARMINGTON Shirley "Jean" Skaggs Kuntz, of Farmington, passed away surrounded by her loved ones at her home on October 28, 2022, at the age of 91. She was born May 31, 1931, in Annapolis, Missouri to the late Alva Johnson and Shirley (Lewis) Johnson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Arland Skaggs in 1994 and her second husband, Edward Kuntz in 2012; five sisters, Alta Miller, Melba Seabaugh, Alsie Duke, Dana Barner and Irene Frohock; and brother, Ronald Johnson, and three infant brothers, Alvin, Robert and Roger Johnson. Jean grew up in the countryside near Annapolis. When she was sixteen years old she wanted to work in St. Louis at Krogers so she fibbed about her age. She got the job there and forty years later retired from there. She loved to have fun and laugh. She liked anything pretty, sparkly and expensive. Playing Bingo, card games and traveling were some of her favorite pastimes. Jean also loved to swim and in fact was still swimming two weeks before she passed. She deeply loved her husbands, her sisters and many nieces and nephews. She was a faithful member of the Farmington Nazarene Church and enjoyed Bible Study. One of her trademark sayings was "Lord put your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth". Survivors include two sisters, Sherry Toppins and Rowena Jones; many nieces, nephews, great, and great-great nieces and nephews; an adopted granddaughter, Andrea Cardos; and two special friends, Shirley James and Perpetua "Pepe" Owuor. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 5 8 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel. Visitation will resume Wednesday morning beginning at 8 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Pastor Art Menard officiating. Interment will follow at Mann Cemetery near Annapolis, Missouri. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Mann Cemetery or to Farmington Nazarene Church.
