Arlene Jean Nelson passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at DePaul Hospital at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 16 days. She was born August 26, 1923, in State of California, daughter of the late Theodore Marion and Dorothy Weiss McDaniel. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bartley Aaron Nelson and by her beloved dog, Murphy Anne. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 5896. She attended the Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church at Overland, MO. Before her retirement she was employed as a Registered Nurse at Normandy Osteopathic Hospital. In her spare time she enjoyed reading books and working crossword puzzles. She was the winner of several state awards for her work in ceramics. She also loved to travel and had visited all 50 states and 10 foreign countries. She is survived by two daughters, Bartlene A. Martin of Atlanta, GA and Karen Nelson Stefl of St. Louis, and by two stepsons, Bartley Robert Larson and George Raymond Larson, both of the State of Texas. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and "aunt" and will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. She will be joined in Heaven by her parents and her husband. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2009. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 7 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. Francois Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to the Farmington Public Library.
