FARMINGTON - Jean Elliott Detring of Farmington passed away May 8, 2014 at Community Manor in Farmington at the age of 83 years. He was born September 15, 1930 at Libertyville, MO, son of the late George Wesley and Julia Elizabeth (Klein) Detring. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Detring and Ray Detring and a sister Patricia Brockmiller and brother-in-law, Antone Brockmiller. Jean grew up in the Libertyville area and attended school there and later graduated from Farmington High School in 1949 where he was known as an exceptional athlete particularly as a defensive end in football. On October 1, 1950 he married Betty Jane Bryant who survives. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the Army. After being honorably discharged, Jean and Betty made their home south of Farmington and made their living as farmers. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Farmington. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him including his wife, Betty Jane (Bryant) Detring; his daughter, Janie ( & Bud) Link of Bonne Terre, his two sons, Scott (Mary) Detring of St. Louis, and Danny (Debbie) Detring of Farmington; 13 grandchildren: Kacie Detring Lamer (Josh), Derek Detring, Travis Detring, Dottie Detring Zimmerman (Matt), Kourtney Detring; Molly Detring Mead (Ron), Elizabeth Link, Kelsey Detring Koppeis (Eric), Hannah Detring, Korde Detring, Jordyn Link, Amanda Link Bartley (Keith) and Kinsey Reiner, two great-grandchildren Kaleb Detring and Lola Zimmerman, two sisters Charlotte ( & Jim) Simms of Wentzville, and Barbara Foster of Lawton, Oklahoma, two sister-in-laws Darlene McWilliams and Nena Detring both of Farmington, and numerous other relatives and good friends. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory. The funeral service will follow at 7:30 p.m. with the Pastor Merlen Wegener officiating. The family requests memorials be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation or to AmHeart Hospice.
