FARMINGTON - Jean Bernice Melvin passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at the age of 85 years, 8 months, and 4 days. She was born on August 19, 1926, in St. Louis, MO, daughter of the late Alvin Edwin Antwon Plume and Bernice Katherine (Wolf) Plume. A resident of St. Louis most of her life, Jean and her husband retired to Farmington several years ago. She was an accomplished seamstress who in addition to clothing made hats for her daughters when they were young girls. She will be remembered for being a resourceful and organized person who had a good head for business. She worked briefly as a bookkeeper and became known as someone who had a knack for accounting. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed crocheting. Jean is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ernest Raymond Melvin, daughters, Jean Louise (Mrs. Eugene) Kastanek and Susan Ann (Mrs. Mark) Sinclair; grandchildren, Kevin Kastanek, Patrick Kastanek, Shawn Copeland, and Kimberly Sherman, great-grandchildren, Emily Kastanek, Kristin Kastanek, Kaitlyn Kastanek, Cody Kastanek, Anders Kastanek, Jacob Copeland, Eryn Copeland, James Parker Sherman, and Thomas Sherman. Funeral services will be held at Cozean Memorial Chapel and Crematory on Thursday, April 26 at 10 a.m. with Father James Dyer officiating.
