James William Ragsdale, Sr., passed away November 22, 2014 at the age of 92. He was born in Mine La Motte on March 17, 1922 to the late Theodore S. and Florence (Pirtle) Ragsdale. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Ione "Ike" (Forshee) Ragsdale in 2013; and a sister, Helen Mae Jones. "Jim" graduated high school in Flat River and attended Flat River Junior College before he was drafted into the service. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII. He was honorably discharged on May 11, 1946 with a rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon his return to Missouri he worked for St. Joe Lead Company where he worked up to general foreman before his retirement after many years of service there. Jim was a member of the American Legion and a life time member of the Farmington VFW. He was a member of the Esther First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed fishing, woodworking and going to gospel singing conventions. Survivors include his three children, Carolyn (Mrs. John) Ritter, James W. Ragsdale, Jr. and wife, Ruth, and Larry Ragsdale and wife, Linda; eight grandchildren, Kenny Ritter, Kathy Lewis, Michelle Lehew, Amanda Hieland, Miranda Stevenson, Larry Ragsdale, Jr., Theodore "Nick" Ragsdale and Salinda Mae Ragsdale; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, November 25 from 5 - 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at the Esther First Baptist Church on Wednesday morning beginning at 9 a.m. followed by the service at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jonathan Jones officiating. Interment will be at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Esther First Baptist Church.
