James E. Womack

James Edwin "Jim" Womack passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the age of 83 years. He was born on September 3, 1930, at Farmington, son of the late Frederick Preston Womack and Mabel M. (Mayberry) Womack. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step mother, Ruth Queen Womack and daughter, Dawn Susette Womack. "Burr," as he was referred to during his youth, was quite active in the Boy Scouts. After graduation from Farmington High School in 1949 he served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1950, and again during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1953, when he was honorably discharged. For the next 18 years he was employed at the Farmington State Hospital as a licensed plumber. He then became the Chief Maintenance Engineer at the Farmington Community Hospital, now BJC Parkland Hospital, from its opening in 1969 to 1977. In later years he worked at Mineral Area Regional Hospital until his retirement. While working at the Farmington State Hospital he was also an adult Boy Scout Leader. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington and an active member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. He was past Master of St. Francois No. 234 at Libertyville and worked on a degree team for the Scottish Rite Valley of St. Louis. He also served as a Worthy Patron for Job's Daughters Bethel No. 34 in Farmington. In his spare time he enjoyed farming, gardening, camping and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy and three children, Nancy (Terry) Medley, James P. (Tina) Womack, and David E. (Marlene) Womack, Sr.; seven grandchildren, Patrick (Michelle) Medley, James Paul (Teresa) Medley, Craig Medley, David E. Womack, Jr., Shelley M. Womack, Sarah Womack and Katie Womack and five great-grandchildren, Chloe and Tanner Medley, Carmen Kennon, Avery Medley and Caelyn Medley. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday morning in the funeral home beginning at 7 a.m. until the time of the service beginning at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Scott Hall officiating. Interment will be at Doe Run Memorial Cemetery in Doe Run. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in St. Louis.
