Jack Smith

March 7, 1924 — February 12, 2013

Jack Smith of Farmington passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at the age of 88. He was born on March 7, 1924, at Ste. Genevieve County, son of the late Laben and Clara (Woods) Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Harriett (Cross) Smith in 2011; two brothers, Shirley and Monroe; six sisters, Ada, Grace, Minnie, Mabel, Edna and Eva; and two nieces who were like sisters, Edna Mae and Edith. Jack grew up in Ste. Genevieve County where he attended school and went on to serve his country in 1944 during WWII. Upon his return to the area he met and married the lovely Harriett Cross. He worked many years for the State Hospital until his retirement in 1985. In his spare time Jack liked hunting and gardening. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra (Mrs. Richard) Woods of St. Charles; two grandchildren, Patrick Woods and wife, Marie, and Kathryn Woods; great-granddaughters, Erin and Mikayla Woods; and numerous nieces, nephews and good friends. Visitation will be held at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 15 from 5 to 8 p.m with a VFW service to be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens in Farmington. Memorials may be made to Pendleton United Baptist Church in Doe Run.
