FARMINGTON- Ingvar Carl "Swede" Swanson of Farmington passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 at Parkland Health Center at the age of 90 years. He was born January 8, 1924 in Norrala,Sweden, son of the late Carl Ingvar and Albertina (Jonsson) Swanson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley (Cunio) Swanson, a brother Sven Swanson and a sister Swea Stuestall. Swede was a naturalized American citizen, and proudly served his adopted country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was retired from Union Pacific Railroad where he was employed as a Telegrapher and later as an Auditor. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, the Farmington American Legion Post 416 and the Farmington Elks Lodge 1765. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and collecting antique golf clubs and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his daughter Terry Straughan and husband Russell "Rusty", a grandson Brian Straughan and Shelley Straughan of Springfield, a granddaughter Tracy Straughan of St. Louis, and two great-grandchildren Ross Straughan and Lucy Straughan both of Springfield as well as many dear friends and neighbors. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on December 16th from 5 - 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor James King officiating. Military Honors will follow the interment service. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Farmington Elks Scholarship Fund.
