Homer Wiley

Homer Edward Wiley of Farmington passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010, at Community Manor, at the age of 83 years. He was born on January 5, 1927, at Delassus, the son of the late Albert Leander and Theresa (Hill) Wiley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Erma Gallagher and a brother, Donald "Duck" Wiley; a sister-in-law, Melba Wiley; two brothers-in-law, Willis Hulsey and Bill Govro and a nephew, Steven Wiley. A life long resident of the Farmington area, Homer attended Farmington High School where he was active in sports. He remained an avid Farmington Knights booster his entire life. Homer entered the service during his senior year and proudly served his country in the United States Army. In 1949 he married the love of his life, Doris Coale who survives. He was a brick mason for more than fifty years, having worked on various jobs in surrounding states. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Nancy (Mrs. Bob) Gierse of Farmington and Susan (Mrs. Doug) Pratt of Farmington; five grandchildren, Jessica (Mrs. Vince) Kauflin, Zach Pratt and Jessica, Tessa Pratt, Rebekah (Mrs. Andy) Smith, all of Farmington, Alex and Jennifer Gierse of Cape Girardeau; five great-grandchildren, Rhett and Rory Kauflin, Landyn Pratt, and Jonathan and Avery Smith, all of Farmington; five sisters, Nellie Wiley, Babe Hulsey, Barbara Govro, Marilyn Wiley and Jetty (Mrs. Lloyd) Reese and a brother, Pete Wiley and his wife, Mildred, and a brother-in-law, Tillman (Toots ) Gallagher. Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8:30 p.m.on Sunday, August 29, 2010. A VFW Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will resume Monday at 7 a.m. with a funeral service at 1 p.m.at the Cozean Memorial Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will be at Parkview Cemetery in Farmington.
