FARMINGTON Helen Marie Mell passed on to her Heavenly home on December 20, 2023, at St. Joe Manor in Bonne Terre at the age of 85. She was born on March 25, 1938, in Bonne Terre to the late Cletus Rosener and Bernice (Byington) Rosener. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Mell; her sisters, Shirley Franklin and Delores Mahurin; a brother, Frankie Rosener; one niece and one nephew. Helen graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1956. The following October she married the love of her life, Marshall Mell at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Farmington. She went to work as a key punch operator at Trimfoot for several years before she went to work as a clerk in the St. Francois County Recorder of Deeds where she worked for 37 years. At the time she retired in 2005, she was awarded a plaque for being the longest working employee of the County at that time. Helen enjoyed sewing and gardening. A faithful long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she volunteered many hours at the St. Joseph Women of Mary and St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. She was an excellent cook and some of her familys favorite dishes were chicken and dumplings and fried chicken. Survivors include her children, Cindy (Dale) Day, Janet (Danny) Hicks, Jim (Karen) Mell and Amy (Scott) Mitchell; two grandchildren, Kurtis Wills and Maggie Mitchell; twenty-five nieces and nephews and extended family. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, David Mell and Clyde "Beans" Mahurin. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church beginning at 10 a.m. with Father William Thess as celebrant. Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Helens name to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
