Helen Morris Gordon passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at the age of 85. She was born on August 4, 1926 at Bonne Terre, Missouri, daughter of the late James William and Edith Pearl (David) Morris. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Rolla E. Gordon, three brothers and four sisters. Helen was a life-long resident of the Farmington area having graduated from Farmington High School. She went on to attend college at Flat River Junior College and later graduated from Southeast Missouri Teachers College. She was a past member of Farmington Library Board and a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church where she was active in the Caring Circle and a long time member of the Chancel Choir. She completed her late husband's term on the Mineral Area College Board of Trustees and later was elected to serve another term. She was an avid bridge player who belonged to two clubs in Farmington and she enjoyed going to antique auctions, family reunions and traveled abroad frequently with family and friends. Helen is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Rick) Gordon-Giles of Farmington, one brother, James Morris, of the State of California; Sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean and Cecil Hulsey of Farmington and numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, September 23. Visitation will resume Saturday from 7 am until 9 am followed by the funeral service at 11 am at Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Rick Broadway officiating. Interment will be at Parkview Cemetery in Farmington. Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Manor's Good Samaritan Fund and Presbyterian Hospice of America.
