Helen A. Black

FARMINGTON Helen A. Black, of Farmington, entered into eternal rest on January 19, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 91. She was born in Bernie, Missouri, on December 20, 1931, to the late Arthur and Mattie Lee (McConnell) Moring. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Floyd S. Lenz, her brother, Franklin Moring, and her dog, Oscar. Helen is survived by her husband of 31 years, Norman Black, her children, Floyd Dale (Docia) Lenz of Salem and Carol Ann (Mike Huffman) Welch of Farmington, her granddaughter, Corena (Guy) Haney of Bismarck, her great grandchildren, Byron Merlenbach and Morgan Merlenbach, her stepdaughters, Laurie Black of Farmington and Kay (John) Griffin of Farmington, numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, her sisters, Joyce (Glenn) Pierce of Sikeston and Dolly Clayton of Sikeston, numerous nieces, nephews, friends and her special canine companion, Sassy. Helen was a member of First Baptist Church of Farmington since 1966, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the bereavement dinner staff, the ceramic workshop instructor, and the founder of the shoebox ministry. She was also a member of the Business and Professional Women and Pioneers of Southwestern Bell. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, and shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughter. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 23, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel officiated by Pastor Rocky Good. Interment to follow at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Farmington.
