Hazel Joanne "Corky" Heaps

Hazel JoAnne "Corky" Heaps passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011, at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 12 days. She was born on February 20, 1939, at Weingarten, MO, daughter of the late Donald James and Mable (Kennedy) Nash. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Anttionette Heaps, a grandson, Adam James Wampler and five sisters, Frances Wampler, Wanda Bates, Delores Politte, Edna Sweet and Pamla Nash. Corky, as she was best known grew up in Elvins. When she was eleven years old she went to Webster Groves to live with her sister, Wanda, where she worked as a waitress at Toll House Restaurant and White Castle. At the age of 19 she came back to the Elvins area where she married William S. Heaps. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Desloge. She enjoyed studying and discussing the Bible, taking frequent rides with her husband, "Bill" to the Mississippi River, fishing at Genevieve lakes and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Hazel is survived by her husband of 54 years, William S. Heaps, daughters, Robin Gail (Mrs. Larry) Wampler, Toni Dale Blankenship, Heather Lea Marie (Mrs. Glen) Wagganer and Billie Jo (Mrs. Ryan) Since; eleven grandchildren, Sarah and Jarrod Finch, Lucas and Sheena Wampler, Michael Barnhouse, Megan Fisk, Deanna and Denny Farmer, Aaron and Samantha Bloodworth, Zachary and Ezekiel "Zek" Wagganer, and Chelsea, Isaac and Madison Since; nine great-grandchildren, Shelby and Lorelai Wampler, Caitlin Miniex, Joy and Ruby Welker, Haili King, Pyper Farmer, Miley and Christopher Bloodworth. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5. Visitation will resume Thursday from 7 a.m. until the service beginning at 2 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Brother Joseph Bounds presiding.
