Harriett Josephine Smith

Harriett Josephine Smith of Farmington passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 22 days. She was born on February 13, 1924, at Desloge, MO, daughter of the late Malte and Caroline Louise (Wagner) Cross. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Mercedes Warren and her brothers, Ralph, Robert , Marvin and Hugo Cross. After thirty-six years she retired from the Missouri State Hospital where she worked as a pyschiatric aide. In her retirement she enjoyed crocheting, reading, doing puzzles and shopping. She was a faithful member of the Pendleton United Baptist Church in Doe Run. Her family was the light of her life and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Harriett is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jewel Jackson "Jack" Smith, daughter, Sandra Josephine (Mrs. Richard) Woods; a granddaughter, Kathy Woods, all of St. Charles; a grandson, Patrick Woods and wife Marie; two great-granddaughters, Erin and Mikayla Woods all of Wentzville; and two very special people in her life, Sherry and Joe Kaiser of the St. Louis area. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 7. Visitation will resume Saturday from 7 a.m. until the beginning of the funeral service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with the Rev. Jay Lacey officiating. Interment will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens in Farmington. Memorials may be made to the Pendleton United Baptist Church. Share your condolences and memories at cozean.biz.
