Harold K. Hastings

FARMINGTON " Harold K. Hastings passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 95 years. He was born on September 7, 1916, at Flat River, son of the late Francis Kossuth and Estella Margaret (Currington) Hastings. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Lee (Schafer) Hastings, a brother, Cletus C. Hastings, five sisters, Gladys Merritt, Lelia Shelton, Maxine Jansen, Geraldine Rawson, and Doris Hastings. Harold was a member of the Farmington First Free Will Baptist Church, a former member of the Farmington Chamber of Commerce, and former active member of the Farmington Methodist Mens Club. Harold worked as an independent type setter for both the Lead Belt News and the Farmington News. He worked for St. Joseph Lead Company where he retired after 37 years. During that time Harold also worked as a Deputy Sheriff for St. Francois County under Sheriff Buckley. At the same time, Harold was a well-known businessman, owning the Whistle-Vess Bottling Company in Farmington for a time and forming HH Mfg. where he made and sold automobile polish for over 50 years. After retirement, Harold focused on fitness, beginning with jogging and later becoming a well-known regular at the Better Bodies Workout Center, where he was still an active member up until the time of his passing. Harold will be missed by all those who knew and loved him including four sons, Harold G. Hastings and wife Phyllis, Larry L. Hastings and wife Deborah, and John R. Hastings all of Farmington and James D. Hastings of St. Louis, Eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday March 9, 2012. Visitation will resume on Saturday at 7 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Roger Hogan officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Heart Association. All services have been entrusted to the care and direction of the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory.
