TITUSVILLE, FL - Golda Virginia Irene (Koester) Moon Kilmer passed away October 9, 2016, in Titusville, FL at the age of 101 years, two months-and four days. She was born August 5, 1915, at Koester Springs, Missouri, to the late Carl Gustave and Ida Pearl (Henroid) Koester.
As the oldest of five children, Golda grew up with her siblings and cousins in the little community of Koester Springs, where her grandfather had established a milling business. She received her formal education at the one-room Koester Springs School. She learned to cook and do most other household duties as a young girl and helped with the younger children. She grew up in a family that loved music, and frequently neighbors gathered for singings and other activities. Her parents bought an organ, and she learned to play for home and sometimes for church. She later did housekeeping for some families before taking a job at Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company in Crystal City, MO.
On July 4, 1941, she married Homer Perry Moon near Farmington, MO, and to this union, was born one son, Stanley Perry Moon. Golda was a homemaker who enjoyed her home and family. Homer and Golda spent their married life on a farm near where she was raised. After Homer passed away on September 18, 1973, she worked part-time at the Presbyterian Nursing Home for several years.
She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1972, and was able to be more involved after moving to Farmington in 1976. She frequently baked bread and pies to help raise money for church needs. She especially enjoyed the children, and worked with them much of the time. She was always ready to help someone in need.
On July16, 1983, she married Emmett Lee Kilmer, and they served a year long mission at the Washington DC Temple, which she loved. Emmett passed away November 4, 2002.
Goldas health deteriorated and she moved to Titusville, FL to live with her son and family in 2003.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands; one brother, Clyde Koester; two sisters, Mable Koester and Geraldine Harter; and a foster sister, Locel Tyree. She is survived by her sister, Bernice Wright of Farmington, MO; a son, Stanley Perry Moon & daughter-in-law, Eileen Rogers Moon; grandsons, Charles Stanley Moon, and Paul Joseph Moon of Titusville, FL; nephews and nieces, other family, and friends also survive.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016 from 5 to 8 PM at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory in Farmington, MO. Visitation will resume after 10 AM on Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 709 S. Henry St., Farmington, MO, and continue until the time of the funeral at 11 AM.
