FARMINGTON Gloria Joan Sheets passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Parkland Health Center in Farmington at the age of 96. She was born December 27, 1919 in Cadilac, Michigan to the late Herbert Henry Jorgensen and Zella Irene (Hall) Jorgensen. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. W. R. Sheets, DVM in 1988; a son, Herbert R. Sheets; a granddaughter-in-law, Heather Sheets; her brother, Herbert Dean Jorgensen; sisters, Beverly Joy Lanni and Beatrice Pauline Williams and a dear friend, Doey Mell.
Gloria met the love of her life, Waynard Russell Sheets as they attended Michigan State (University). She majored in physical education and especially loved the winter sports. She and Wayne married in 1943 after his graduation from the School of Veterinary Medicine and moved to Canton, Missouri. Their son, Herbert Russell was born in 1946 and in 1948 they moved to Farmington. Daughter, Diane Gloria was born in 1952 and that same year the Farmington Animal Hospital was built by Gloria's father. She was a member of Farmington Presbyterian Church since 1948 and had been involved in many aspects of church life. Her favorite thing was preparing and delivering Christmas baskets. She had been a competitive bowler and also enjoyed tennis. She loved Bingo and was a Cardinal baseball fan. Her caregivers of recent years would tell you that she lit up when watching a snow fall as if seeing it for the first time. She was the mom who took all the kids sledding. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Roubey and to the staff of Parkland Hospital who so lovingly cared for her in her last hours, the staff at Ashbrook Manor where she called "home" for nearly four years, and to the staff of Community Manor.
