Gloria Jean Hammers

STE. GENEVIEVE COUNTY - Gloria "Jean" Hammers of Ste. Genevieve passed away Saturday June 20, 2015 at the age of 72. She was born May 17, 1943 to the late Troy Kennedy Sr. and Gloria (Barnes) Kennedy. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Susan Moore and Nikki Mauer and several nieces and nephews. Jean grew up in Ste. Genevieve County and graduated from high school in Ste. Genevieve in 1961. After graduation she married Donald Hammers, Sr. and in 1966 they moved to California where they lived for 21 years. In 1987 the family relocated back to Ste. Genevieve County to care for her parents and her mother-in-law. A faithful and devoted member of the Genevieve Baptist Church Family, she enjoyed singing and fellowship there. She will be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she was happiest when they were with her. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Don; two children, Tonia Dugger and husband, Kelly and Donnie Hammers and wife, Jeannie; seven grandchildren, Jamie Dugger, Justin Dugger, Cassie Lynn, James (Sidni) Dugger, Shelby Hammers and Marki Hammers; seven great grandchildren, Riley Johnson, Dakota Lynn, Hunter Lynn, Abiagael Dugger, Christopher Dugger, Lilly Lynn and Bryleigh Dugger; seven siblings, David (Myrna) Kennedy, Kenny (Pat) Kennedy, Richard (Christina) Kennedy, Sherry (Clarence) Wilson, Trudy Kennedy, Penny (Ralph) Fulk and Troy (Lori) Kennedy, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 from 5 - 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the time of the service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Rev. Elmer "Fred" Killian officiating. Interment will follow at Genevieve Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Genevieve Baptist Church "Van Fund".
