Gertrude Zimmer

Gertrude M. Zimmer of Kansas City, MO passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 at the age of 102 years. She was born October 21, 1908, inFarmington, daughter of the late J. Frank and Sophia (Mell) Zimmer. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Leola Virginia Rion. Gertrude received her Bachelor Degrees and Master's Degree in English from theUniversity of Missouri--Columbia. She was a high school and college teacher inMissouriandKansas. Later she received a Master's Degree in Library Science fromPeabody College, Nashville, TN. At the time of her retirement she was director of theOzark Regional Library,Ironton, MO. After retirement she traveled extensivelybefore moving toKansas Cityin 1995 to be nearer to family. Gertrude is survived by a nephew, John M. Rion and wife Marjory ofOlathe, KS: a niece, Mary M. (Rion) RaglandofWarrensburg, MO; and a great-nephew, John Howard Ragland and wife Meaghan and daughter Claire ofKansas City, KS. A graveside service with interment will be held at Parkview Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2011. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Cozean Memorial Chapel.
