George Sanford Porter of Farmington entered into rest on Monday, January 10, 2011, at the age of 68 years, 2 months, and 27 days. He was born on October 14, 1942, in St. Louis, the son of the late Earl J. Porter and Aneatta (Hawkins) Wing. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his fostor parents, Rev. O. E. On October 19, 1963 George married his one and only significant other and wonderful wife, Rita Marie (Phelps) Porter. To this union one son was born, David Sanford Porter who was the apple who didn't fall far from the tree. He worked in the funeral industry, having worked at Cozean Funeral Home and later in California for Guerreo Mortuary in San Leandro. After his health forced him into retirement, George moved back to the area in 2000. He enjoyed spending time with his very close knit family. His pets were very special to him, especially his dogs, Ginger and Jelly and his three cats, Midnight, Milo and Allie. His grand-dogs, Buc and Jasmine were also great entertainment for him. George is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rita Marie Porter, his son, David Sanford Porter and his wife Kristine; four grandchildren, Tony, Richard, Rusty and Sandra; eleven great-grandchildren all of Farmington; a sister, Charlotte Mohr (Mrs. Monroe) Miller from the State of Florida; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Betty Phelps of Ste. Genevieve County; a God son, Christopher Carnes of Hayward, CA; many nieces, nephews and friends. Also surviving is a special friend, Billie Johnson, not just a home health caregiver but a very sweet and compassionate person that has shared her true loyalty and love with each of us every step of the way. Also surviving is George's special buddy, Dakota Hood, who was always there to help. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday evening, January 13 and 14, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 1p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with the Rev.
